PS: I think you are being way too pessimistic about the length of time you'll be on "bed rest". I had both of my hips replaced several months apart. Yes, it seemed as if I spent the better part of a year getting ready for surgery, recovering, and rehabbing. However, I spent very little time on bed rest after the first couple of weeks post-op. And sitting for long periods of time (anything over 30-60 minutes at a time) was not comfortable for several months. I had to vary my activity with lots of walks.
